From the President

A warm welcome to the Howard County Autism Society and a special welcome to our website! Whether you are visiting for the first time, or returning to search for information, read an article, register for an event, or just to take another peek at the new design, we are happy you are here.

For nearly 25 years, the Howard County Autism Society has been supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Today, with hundreds of individuals, families, and professionals comprising our membership and with the support of local businesses, government agencies, and service providers, we are realizing our vision to serve as a knowledgeable and trusted resource to families and the community.

Each week, our resource center welcomes many parents’some of them attending support meetings, others borrowing from the resource library, and many stopping by for information. And still, there are others. There are parents who enter for the first time . . . yearning for information, guidance, or just a few simple words of encouragement. We are proud to be here to offer parents support, whether they are just beginning the journey or already well on the road.

We are proud to be here to offer parents support, whether they are just beginning the journey or already well on the road.

For those parents who are receiving a new diagnosis or who may be new to the area, please let us help. Our door is wide open and waiting for you. Know that you will find an incredibly diverse and compassionate group of parents who can help you along. Don’t stay in the shadows. There is no need to. Love your kids like crazy and we will do our best to see you through!

Finally, for all parents, grandparents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and friends, there is a place for you at the Howard County Autism Society. We welcome you to work by our side and make us stronger.

With all best wishes,
Theresa Ballinger
President of the Board of Directors
