In and Out of Middle School Workshop
February 7 (Tuesday) 6:30-8:30pm: What parents of students with disabilities want to know about transitioning from elementary to middle school, or from middle to high school. Wilde Lake Middle School, 10481 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia, MD 21044. Presented by HCPSS resource teachers and parents. This free workshop is sponsored by the HCPSS Transitions/Work Study program and the Special Education Community Advisory Committee (SECAC). Transitioning Youth/ Adult Support Group Meeting
February 8 (Wednesday) 7:00 pm:: Presenter: Linda Schnapp, Asst Director Project Access
Project Access is a program designed to help support and guide the transition of high school students with disabilities on into postsecondary education, to increase the success rate and retention of freshman students with disabilities in college, and to improve career counseling and job placement services for students with disabilities. While a Howard Community College Program, students are not required to attend HCC to participate. Learn how this program could help strengthen skills to make this all important transition a little bit easier, and a lot more successful. HCAS Resource Center.
Aspergers Group Meeting
February 9 (Thursday) 7:30-9:00pm: Presenter: Wynn Kirchner. Come listen to an 11th grade student share his experiences and personal journey of growing up on the spectrum. HCAS Resource Center.
HCAS General Support Group Meeting
February 16 (Thursday) 7pm-9pm: This month, we will be discussing Biomed topics. We will have a panel of four speakers to discuss the work in their fields. Lisa Gordon Dabbs is a Chiropractor and does Neural Cranial Integration. Janis Wasser specializes in Cranial Sacral Therapy and performs Reiki. Mary Mulrowis a licensed massage therapist who is certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. And Lorraine Stern works with Bowen Therapy. These holistic therapies are based on physical and energetic work. Each has its own technique and has been helpful for many in our community. HCAS Resource Center.

Developmental Disabilities Day at the Legislature
February 21, 8:30am - 4pm: Make your voice be heard! Join fellow citizens with disabilities, families, providers and advocates in Annapolis to meet with legislators about critical disability issues. Trip includes breakfast, a couple of hours of large-group policy briefings at a local hotel, and then the walk down to the State House where everyone will split up to meet in small groups with individual legislators in their offices. Cost: $20 per person, includes continental breakfast.
