Howard County has the largest per capita population of children with autism in the State. The State average is about 4% of the special education population; in Howard County over 8% of its special education population are children with autism. Most families move to Howard County because 1) we have some of the best early intervention services in the state or 2) the school system is better at including children with autism than some of the other counties in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. |
