Advocacy Organizations
  • Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council The Council works for the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities in their schools and communities through policy work, grants, and by leveraging funds.
  • Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education (MCIE) MCIE offers legal advocacy, professional training, and resources on inclusive education.  A resource if you are having difficulty having your child included in the general education classroom in the neighborhood school.
  • Maryland Disability Law Center The Maryland Disability Law Center is Maryland’s Protection and Advocacy Agency. As well as providing legal work on behalf of people with disabilities, they offer some excellent publications, including Special Education: Rights and Wrongs.
  • The Arc of Maryland A statewide organization that advocates on behalf of individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities, the Arc has some wonderful programs including the Ask Me Project, the Personal SPACE Curriculum, and the Partners in Policymaking Program.
