In 2006, the Howard County Autism Society and the Howard County Public Library formed a partnership to increase autism awareness and improve library services for families affected by autism. With an initial donation from the HCAS, we became a sponsor of their new Health Information Center.
The library has since expanded their collection by purchasing books, DVDs and materials about autism and related subjects for both the Health Information Center and its branches. This was done with the input of our members by survey. They have also, over the past year, provided the HCAS with meeting space, and worked in collaboration with the HCAS to offer programs about autism for both their staff and the general public.
We are also currently brainstorming how to improve services for young adult programming, and will work with the library to apply for grant money to assist with this need.
