About the Social Groups:
In the past, Howard County Autism Society has offered social skills training for three different age groups on a weekly basis for 6-week sessions. The primary difference between the age groups besides age is the level of community engagements.
For the social skills training, we have been in a classroom setting working on honing our social skills. For example, we could be practicing where to stand, tone of voice, body language, and eye contact when speaking with someone. While our social group participants are out in the community each week, the goal is for them to be implementing the social skills taught in these sessions.
At this time, we are not holding our social skills groups.
Consistent with our mission, we will continue to explore ways to expand our members’ access to services, including the possibility of a new HCAS social skills program.
In the meantime, we would like to refer you to the Pathfinders For Autism website where you can find information about additional social skills programs in the Baltimore area.
